COMMENTS ON SOME INDICATORS OF OUR TIMES

(Some of which fall just a little short of being required to be termed "dumb")

Including: * The Big Dig; * A Virus Spray for Cold Cuts and Hot Dogs; * Men in the women’s rest room, and women in the men’s rest room; * "uncovered meat" who invite rape; * Legal Services Corp.

The Big Dig: Teddy Kennedy and his allies have already spent over $14.6 billion on a dysfunctional roadway tunnel system in Boston, and now they wish to spend more. The system has leaked from its inception, and now the bolts which secure the slabs of concrete which are the walls, top, and bottom of the tunnels, have been proven to be defective in design, manufacture, application, instillation, or in some other way.

If there had been one gram of morality in the building of this project, motorist would not have to be concerned about giant slabs of concrete weighing many tons falling on them as they drive through the tunnels. If there had been two grams of morality in the building of this project, it would never have passed the planning stage, and billions of dollars would not have been wasted. But try to get a penny out of Teddy to protect and assist the millions of people who live along the Gulf of Mexico.

A Virus Spray for Cold Cuts and Hot Dogs: No, this is not a spray that will cure the common cold when caught by cold cuts and hot dogs, though there is no telling when someone will put that on the market. This is a spray composed of selected viruses called bacterio-phages which eat or otherwise kill selected bacteria of the Listeria bacterium strains. It will be used to kill these bacteria which are found on or in prepared meats and poultry because certain of these products are not cooked or reheated once they are purchased and thus are prone to culturing the bacteria. It is believed the viruses will not harm humans since humans already come into contact with the viruses through food, water, and the general environment, and are already present to some extent in the human digestive tract.

Seems to be OK "so far", except for the phrase beginning with "IT IS BELIEVED". Production of the virus and the methods by which it is applied will be supervised by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

But once the procedure is approved, there is nothing which will prevent the virus from being used in other applications. The food industry will also rely on the procedure to remedy any defects in product manufacture, which will undoubtedly lead to a decrease in sanitary standards in the manufacturing process - the thinking being that after all, the virus will take care of any bacteria that may get into the finished product and money can be saved by skimping on sanitary practices and procedures. The viruses themselves are actually grown on cultures of the very bacteria they are designed to control. Toxic residue result from the viruses eating and killing the bacteria, which means not only is there a potential for contamination from the process by which the viruses are grown, but also from the fact that the viruses will be eating and killing bacteria on the finished product. The fact that the FDA will oversee the entire procedure is not reassuring since the FDA oversees the production of these food products now, before use of the viruses. Since there apparently exists a problem in the preparation of these products under current FDA oversight, adding an additional procedure which must also be overseen by the FDA is not in the least reassuring. But if the manufacturers operated their businesses in a moral manner, there would be no need for the virus treatment in the manufacturing procedure. If the virus product is to be approved because it will assist in prevention of Listeria after purchase, i.e.: that it will help keep luncheon meat from spoiling after it is purchased, then would it not be better to sell the virus spray to the public for that purpose, and not force everyone who wants to purchase cold cuts to also eat the viruses? And since the virus spray is designed to eat or kill bacteria which develop because the meat and poultry products are not cooked after purchase, why not just cook your hot dogs before you eat them? Who wants a raw hot dog anyway?

Men in the women’s rest room, and women in the men’s rest room - Courts, New York government, and Newspapers can not tell the difference between men and women: Henry Stone was born male. He underwent hormone treatment (apparently without surgery - which would not have changed his being male, his DNA would remain male, it would just have mutilated him) so he would resemble a woman. He was arrested by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for using the women’s rest room. At various recent times the MTA also arrested at least three other men who desire to appear to be women, for using the women’s rest room.

After protests by the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, the MTA dropped the charges against Stone, will now allow men to use the women’s rest rooms, and, under law, will be required to allow women to use the men’s rest rooms Newspapers reporting the story, including Newsday, and The Times-Picayune refer to Stone as "she". Stone can change his appearance all he wants, through use of hormones, and even through surgery, but Stone will always have male DNA, was born a male, will live a male, and will die a male. Remember the good old days when one had to be concerned only about "normal" wierdoes? Now you are forced to go to the bathroom with people of the opposite gender. Why knows what kind of "jollies" they are getting.

Women who do not wear head scarfs are "uncovered meat" who invite rape: This is the proclamation of that most "holy" of Islamic clerics, Australia's Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali. Since the Hollywood celebrity crowd loves debauchery, perhaps the Sheik should be invited by the various film and TV associations, to live in their society where he will be truly appreciated.

One out of every three persons who seeks assistance through programs run by Legal Services Corp. (a federally created and funded entity designed to help poor people) is turned down for lack of funds, but the executives have $14.00, desserts and take $400.00, limo rides when a $20.00, taxi would suffice. We need say no more.
