The school has increased in size, both the physical plant and the number of students and teachers, over the past few years. What was a field with open sided huts used for classrooms now is a multi storied building of concrete and steel, but the rear part of the lower floor remains without exterior walls. It is much cooler without the walls, for there is no air conditioning.
The barracks style classrooms along the exterior wall of the compound remains in use, but now most of the classrooms have real "blackboards", those white things that have replaced the old slate boards. The lighting is much better in all of the buildings.
Many of the students asked to talk with us so they could test their knowledge of the English language, and all were very proficient.
Motorcycles are being imported to Guatemala, especially from China, at such low prices that many of the students can afford to purchase them and ride them to school.
These improvements have been very expensive, and the cost of salaries for teachers and staff, as well as other operating expenses, are very high. We are committed to providing the best education possible, which, of course, must include a good religious as well as an education in secular subjects.
